Christ is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18, Ephesians 1:22) and He has instituted that His Church is to be shepherded by a plurality of Biblically qualified men as defined by the New Testament and there are three terms used interchangeably: Elder, Overseer and Pastor/Shepherd (Ephesians 4:11-14, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-3). These men are responsible for the spiritual care of the church body and will give account to Jesus Christ on how they shepherd (Hebrews 13:17).
